SPM, short for Sun Platinum Metal, was developed by Shintaro Gatten in 1930. It is a platinum-colored alloy consisting of 85% nickel, 11% chromium, and 3% silver. SPM has a high affinity with the human body, is resistant to certain types of corrosion, and does not easily discolor over time when left exposed to air. When polished, it emits a soft platinum-colored luster. As such, it is widely used in dentistry as a material known for its anti-allergic properties.
